For Referrers

Referring to Exceptionally You

Exceptionally You provides neuroaffirming, trauma-informed therapy for neurodivergent children, teenagers and young adults aged 8–25, alongside support for parents and carers.

I welcome enquiries and referrals from GPs, schools, allied health professionals, mental health services, family services and other professionals supporting children, young people and families.

Who I work with

I work with young people who are autistic, ADHD, otherwise neurodivergent, or exploring whether they may be neurodivergent.

Referrals may be appropriate for young people seeking support with:

  • Anxiety, overwhelm and emotional regulation

  • Masking, exhaustion and burnout

  • School difficulties, avoidance and transitions

  • Friendships and relationships

  • Identity, confidence and self-esteem

  • Understanding neurodivergence

  • Trauma and difficult life experiences

  • Communication and connection

  • Life transitions and increasing independence

A formal neurodevelopmental diagnosis is not required.

Parent & carer support

Parents and carers can access support independently, including when their young person is not ready or willing to engage in therapy.

Sessions may focus on understanding the young person's needs, making sense of what's happening beneath behaviour, strengthening connection and developing neuroaffirming ways of responding and providing support.

Therapeutic approaches

Therapy is tailored to the individual young person and may draw from:

  • EMDR

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

  • DBT-informed strategies

  • Creative and play-based approaches

  • Therapeutic gaming, including Minecraft

  • Visual resources, storytelling and shared interests

My work is neuroaffirming, trauma-informed and inclusive of LGBTQIA+ young people and families.

Fees & funding

Private referrals are welcome and a referral is not required to access services.

As an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker, I can provide Medicare-rebatable mental health services for eligible clients with a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan and referral.

Self-managed and plan-managed NDIS participants may be able to access services where appropriate to their individual funding and circumstances.

Third-party funding may also be considered where a school, service, agency or other organisation is funding therapeutic support.

Making a referral

Professionals are welcome to contact me via email before making a referral if you would like to discuss whether Exceptionally You may be an appropriate fit.

Where possible, please include:

  • Young person's name, age and contact details

  • Parent or carer details where appropriate

  • Reason for referral

  • Relevant diagnoses or current supports, if known

  • Funding or referral information, where applicable

  • Your contact details as the referring professional

Once a referral is received, I will make contact to discuss suitability and next steps.

Getting in touch doesn't commit you to an appointment. I'll respond to your enquiry and, if it seems like we may be a good fit, we can discuss the next steps and arrange an appointment.

I usually respond within 2–3 business days.
