Children and Young People
Therapy that makes room for different ways of being
I work with neurodivergent children, teenagers and young adults aged 8–25, including those who are autistic, ADHD, otherwise neurodivergent, or still exploring what neurodivergence might mean for them.
Therapy at Exceptionally You isn't about changing who a young person is. It's about understanding what's happening, discovering what helps, building skills and creating space to become more confidently themselves.
How I can help
Young people might come to therapy for support with:
Anxiety, overwhelm or big feelings
Emotional regulation, shutdowns or big reactions
Masking, exhaustion or burnout
School difficulties, avoidance or transitions
Friendships and relationships
Identity, confidence and self-esteem
Understanding neurodivergence
Trauma or difficult life experiences
Growing independence and navigating early adulthood
There doesn't need to be one clear problem or diagnosis before getting in touch. Sometimes knowing that things feel hard is enough of a place to start.
Therapy can look different here
Therapy doesn't have to mean sitting opposite someone and talking about feelings.
Depending on the young person, sessions might involve conversation, creativity, games, storytelling, visual resources, shared interests, therapeutic gaming or more structured therapeutic activities.
There is room to move, fidget, look away, take time to answer, bring interests into the room or simply say "I don't know."
I draw from evidence-based approaches including ACT, CBT, DBT-informed strategies and EMDR, adapting these to the individual young person rather than expecting them to adapt to therapy.
For parents and carers
Parents and carers can be an important part of the therapeutic process, particularly for younger children. We'll work together to find a balance that supports your young person while respecting their growing independence and privacy.
Parent and carer support is also available as a service in its own right.
